About Us
THE CAMBRIAN RADIO CONTROL FLYERS
Our normal flying season is from May to the end of October. A club newsletter is published and sent out to members on a monthly basis. This includes, competitions, new and used equipment for sale, as well as news related articles. Training in radio controlled flying is included in the club fees; however, students must provide their own equipment. Insurance is mandatory and is available through MAAC for an annual fee of $75.00. Members of the club make themselves available to student members to provide helpful information on building, buying, flying, and safety. Although the field is open to members anytime most flying often occurs Tuesday and Thursday Evenings, Saturday and Sunday mornings.

(The Model Aeronautics Association of Canada)The Model Aeronautics Association of Canada is the Official Governing Body for Model Aviation in Canada, acting as a liaison to government agencies, such as Industry Canada (formerly Department of Communications) with regard to radio frequencies and their use in radio controlled models, as well as representing our internationally competitive modelers to the Fédération Aéronautique International (FAI) through the Aero Club of Canada. MAAC also provides liability insurance to its members and chartered clubs, among many other membership benefits. Today, the Model Aeronautics Association of Canada has grown from a group of 11, in 1949, to a body of Canadian modelers over 13,000 strong, representing all facets of this exciting hobby, from the Atlantic to the Pacific. CAMBRIAN RADIO CONTROL FLYERS - THE CLUBCambrian R/C Flyers has existed for over a 17 years in the Region of Sudbury. Over the years the club has had facilities at INCO's Frood Mine site, Mr. G. Belanger's property in Chelmsford and the current location at Mr. L Brousseau's farm in Azilda. The Cambrian Radio Control Flyers Club was formed by a break away group of 4 original members from the Sudbury Model Airplane Club (or SMAC as we know it). Most of members reside throughout the Region of Sudbury and travel to Azilda to fly their model aircraft, attend club events, and club meetings. Within the membership there are various levels of volunteer participation and activity commitment. The Cambrian Radio Control Flyers Club holds at least one annual model show. This commenced as a regular activity for the Club since moving to the Azilda location. It was only about 8 years ago since the club has used the Azilda field. The creation of an annual flying event opens the club to other clubs and to the public at large. Normally each of the existing nearby clubs in Sudbury (of which there are now 3 Clubs), North Bay, Sault Ste Marie, Elliot Lake, New Liskeard, and Timmins have scheduled annual events opening their facilities to other clubs and the public. The success of each event varies from one event to the other and from one year to the next. Normally, as with any outdoor event, the weather has the greatest impact on the success of each event. One of the latest developing roles that the Cambrian Radio Control Flyers club has been adopting has been the involvement and sponsoring of educational workshops. These workshops have offered hands-on participation to a variety of students and have, in some cases, introduced new technologies to such willing participants. These activities have included teaching school age children and University students about flight and demonstrating basic flying systems. Also, club members have provided opportunities for children to actually fly in a full size aircraft. One event that was conducted was a school outing to the Club's flying field. A few public school classes had an opportunity to launch their own flying creations. Also some of the children were able to fly a remote control model under the strict control of a qualified instructor. These events have always been a success. The involvement that the Cambrian Radio Control Flyers has had in the community has evolved by the drive and enthusiasm of its active members. Most of the community activities have developed over the past 6 years. We often have requests to become more involved in the school system for presentations to students. The club exists as a result of a common drive. These activities are introduced democratically and involvement is voluntary. As a Club, the Cambrian Radio Control Flyers hope is to always maintain the accomplishments of previous years activities and to grow at the rate that the Club can easily maintain. The Spirit of Community:As noted previously the Cambrian R/C Flyers sponsor at least one annual weekend event as a minimum. Local and distant visitors converge on Azilda for as long as 3 days. The success of these events is always measured by attendance. Since the Clubs inception the growth of this event has continued to increase. If we develop a stronger membership then the opportunity for more diversified events can be considered. As well as Model shows other events such as Scale Model Shows, Aerobatic competitions and so forth would develop the impact of the club on the local retail group. The key is positive support and continued growth. The involvement that the Cambrian Radio Control Flyers will have in the community will evolve by the drive and enthusiasm of its active members. We often have requests to become more involved in the school system for presentations to students. It is and will be the clubs spirit of community and inherent energies that cause any of these events to develop.
